A new Canine Good Citizen (CGC) class will be starting up on Monday, May 7th at 7 PM and will be taught by Patty Wiedeman. Be sure to sign up before all of the spots are filled.
Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. It consists of four weeks of instruction/preparation for the required basic skills, and week five the test is given. The ten-step test shows your dog’s ability to perform basic commands and deal with minor distractions. The class size is small by design, so individual attention can be given on learning each of the test elements.
This class is open to pure bred and mixed breed dogs. All dogs that pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.
To receive a CGC award, dogs must pass the following items:
- Accept the presence of a friendly stranger
- Sit politely for petting
- Appearance and grooming
- Walk on a loose leash
- Walk through a crowd
- Sit and down on command and stay in place
- Come when called
- Reaction to another (unknown) dog
- Reaction to distractions
- Supervised separation from its owner
