Tip-of-the-Day: Why is Your Puppy Barking? (Part 3 of 3)

Why is your puppy barking continued from 9/12/2017:

  • Other ideas include giving your puppy a short “time out” in his crate. That will serve to break the barking pattern.
  • Give him a Kong or other toy to redirect his attention.
  • Call your puppy to you and release him to play.
  • Be calm when you arrive home – ignore him and his demands until he settles to a level that you can live with.

Citronella and other “bark collars” work to stop barking but don’t eliminate the underlying issues. Teach your dog some manners so they understand what you expect.

Always remember ……. a tired dog is a good dog. Give him plenty of exercise and he may be just too exhausted to bark at that leaf after all.
